PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
V. Send forth your spirit, and they shall be created.
R. And you shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray: O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of the faithful,
grant that in the same Spirit we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Fisrt Reading: Acts 15:22-31 22 The Apostles and presbyters, in agreement with the whole Church, decided to choose representatives and to send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. The ones chosen were Judas, who was called Barsabbas, and Silas, leaders among the brothers. 23 This is the letter delivered by them: “The Apostles and the presbyters, your brothers, to the brothers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia of Gentile origin: greetings. 24 Since we have heard that some of our number who went out without any mandate from us have upset you with their teachings and disturbed your peace of mind, 25 we have with one accord decided to choose representatives and to send them to you along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 who have dedicated their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 So we are sending Judas and Silas who will also convey this same message by word of mouth: 28 ‘It is the decision of the Holy Spirit and of us not to place on you any burden beyond these necessities, 29 namely, to abstain from meat sacrificed to idols, from blood, from meats of strangled animals, and from unlawful marriage. If you keep free of these, you will be doing what is right. Farewell.’ ” 30 And so they were sent on their journey. Upon their arrival in Antioch they called the assembly together and delivered the letter. 31 When the people read it, they were delighted with the exhortation. Psalm 57:8-9, 10, 12 R: I will give you thanks among the peoples, O Lord. 7 [8] My heart is steadfast, O God; my heart is steadfast; I will sing and chant praise. 8 [9] Awake, O my soul; awake, lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn. (R) 9 [10] I will give thanks to you among the peoples, O Lord. I will chant your praise among the nations. 11[12] Be exalted above the heavens, O God; above all the earth be your glory! For your mercy towers to the heavens and your faithfulness to the skies. (R) GOSPEL Jesus has chosen us. The first act in the work of salvation is His work in our life. We can be sure of His love for us. Our love for Him is uncertain due to our sinfulness. Jesus, help me to take every opportunity that You give me to draw closer to You. The closer I get, the less likely will I walk away. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION I call you my friends, says the Lord, for I have made known to you all that the Father has told me. John 15:12-17 12 Jesus said to his disciples: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. 16 It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. 17This I command you: love one another.” think: The first act in the work of salvation is the work of Jesus in our life. LOVE LANGUAGE
“This I command you: love one another.” – John 15:17 I express my love for Gina, my wife, by kissing, cuddling and holding her hands. Gina thinks: “Cheesy!” She enjoys doing these things with me: house chores, going to the grocery or walking in the park. Me: “Zzzzzz.” I expected her to be more “touchy” with me. She wanted me to spend more quality time with her. While Gina and I had no serious issues, there was a strain in our relationship back then. We thought that our own personal expressions were automatically appreciated by the other. We now know that our love languages differ. She has since learned to hold my hand and sit really close to me. I now think of things we could do together. It’s hard work but the rewards are much greater. We follow God’s command to love, but often do it the easy way: our way. Many relationships fail because love is often miscommunicated. Love is expressed and understood in different ways. Do not insist that yours is the only correct way. Try expressing it in the language understood by the other person. It will take a lot of sacrifice on your part, but it’s all worth it. Jun Asis ([email protected]) Reflection: Observe how your loved ones express their love. Return the favor in the same way. Lord, make me more loving towards others. Help me express my love in the way they understand it, even if it means putting effort and much time into it. St. Peter of Tarentaise, pray for us. CORRECTING MY IMAGE OF JESUS For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. – John 3:17 Blessed Caesar de Bus, pray for us. BELIEVE IN JESUS “Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in this desert, where there is no food or water? We are disgusted with this wretched food!” Thus says our First Reading. The Israelites complain against God and Moses. Perhaps we, too, complain immediately when things are not according to our liking or when they are not up to our standards. Luckily, we don’t get punished at all for our complaints. But we have to be aware of our stubborn dissatisfaction. Only God satisfies — and we have no right to complain about things here on earth. Jesus in today’s Gospel reminds us: “You belong to what is below, I belong to what is above.” If we remain stuck with the momentary matters and affairs of this world, we will find it hard to be “lifted up” to greater heights. Just like the Jews who seemed lost and unable to figure out what Jesus was saying, we will also be incapable of grasping the Lord’s message to us. That would be pathetic, for there is already a finality in God’s revelation to us in His Son Jesus. At the risk of being misunderstood or accused of blasphemy, Jesus refers to Himself with the Hebrew title of God, “I AM.” And as the concluding verse of the Gospel passage points out, “Because he spoke this way, many came to believe in him.” Do we also believe in Jesus? Or do we continue complaining about the petty matters of this world? Fr. Martin Macasaet, SDB REFLECTION QUESTION: Do you tend to complain to Jesus when things do not turn out the way you expect them to be? Lord Jesus, tame my tongue and train my heart to be content whenever I start complaining. INCOME VS BLESSING If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God... by loving the Lord your God, and walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments... then... the Lord your God will bless you... – Deuteronomy 30:16 PRISON MINISTRY “I was in prison, and you visited me.” – Matthew 25:36 WHAT DO YOU NEED? “Give us today our daily bread.” – Matthew 6:11 THE AWESOME POWER OF AS KING IN PRAYER “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you…”– Matthew 7:7 At a seminar my wife and I attended, the speaker told us to write down our dreams. Dreaming is free anyway, so we wrote crazy things like a European trip, a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, establishing an orphanage, putting up a family business, and other outrageous fantasies. I was poor and jobless then. The company I worked for had just closed down. My wife was a full-time homemaker. So those dreams were really wild. But the speaker told us to pray about them daily and believe God had already granted them. That blew my mind. But obey the speaker’s instructions we did. And so we asked God — and asked again and again. Lo and behold, each and every one of those crazy dreams turned into reality. We were transformed from being blessed to becoming blessers and mighty believers. Ours indeed is a big God and His blessings are limitless. We just have to ask, pray and persist in praying. So go ahead, ask God. Rey Ortega ([email protected]) Reflection: When you ask God for something huge and ambitious, do you pray timidly, doubting that you don’t deserve what you’re asking for? Or do you believe that God’s deepest desire is to make you happy and whole? Believe the latter. Lord God, I love You and I know that You love me. I offer to You my dreams and I thank You in advance for granting them. St. Porphyry of Gaza, pray for us. (source from: Kerygma family via [email protected]) |
